lalalala.......

I need to run errands! I'm drowning in work. But what do I do? I watch movies. Today I watched Adam's Rib. Yesterday I watched An Officer and A Gentleman. Both were so good.

Brain... is... exploding...

Okay, I'm better now. Honest.

A typical "Anna" conversation:

FluffyJenn: Aren't you up rather late?
FairMaidofDevon: not much
FairMaidofDevon: yes, should be in bed ;-)
FairMaidofDevon: but i took a late nap, so i dont feel tired
FairMaidofDevon: but i'll be tired tomorrow!
FluffyJenn: oh... those nap things.
FairMaidofDevon: yes ;-)
FluffyJenn: I like 'em. My parents don't believe in them and feel they have to wake me up as soon as they see me in slumber.
FairMaidofDevon: eww
FairMaidofDevon: that's bad
FairMaidofDevon: my mother, on the other hadn, is a memeber of hte sleep brigagde, and endeavors to make everyone sleep, and as often and long as possilbe
FairMaidofDevon: ;-)
FairMaidofDevon: w/ no interuptions! ;-)
FluffyJenn: I've noticed
FairMaidofDevon: :-)
FluffyJenn: Typical phone call to Anna's house:
Jen: Hi, is Anna there?
Mrs. Breuer: She's asleep.
Jen: It's urgent, I just found out I have three minutes to live!
Mrs. Breuer: Sorry, she's asleep.
FairMaidofDevon: sounds pretty darn close! ;-)
FairMaidofDevon: i dunno, if you had three minutes to live, shemight wake me, but not if you had 4 or 5
FluffyJenn: Yup.

I'm too tired to write real content. But I thought the conversation was funny.

One quick note:

I saw Britney Spears today!

She was shopping in Express while I was working... she didn't buy anything, but she was wearing a heinous wig. It was short and blonde and just putrid. When one of the other salesgirls told me she was in the store, I didn't believe her. Then when I realized that woman was really Britney Spears... I just kinda smiled and said, "Oh, I guess you're right."

When we closed up the shop, our manager told us that one of her friends who works at Soho knew that she was coming to the Galleria today. Evidently her concert was last night. So, the people in Soho totally re-arranged the store to fit what they would imagine that Britney would like. She came in, tried on a size 26 shorts, and they were too small. Supposedly she said, "Whoops, I guess my ass grew." Then she tried on a sheer top and she was "busting out all over."

Take that last part with a grain of salt. It's all hearsay.

I still can't stop laughing.

Because I'm addicted, and I need to get help, I'm having a relapse.

Jess, you're a bad influence!

What Jelly Belly flavor are you? I'm -

I actually really like this description. And I like *this*, the second runner up even more, but I'm not really like that. It's what I wish to be, though. I'm kinda aspiring to be a mix of Serena and Anna. I'm failing miserably, but hopefully one day it'll happen.

Gloria Estefan, baby! Get on your FEET! WOO! ::twirls around::

Because I spent way too many hours procrastinating on this essay, I thought I'd share part of it.

Q: Please tell us about your most outstanding experience as a student at USC.

A: The echoes of 90,000 fans reverberated loudly in the white-washed walls of the Coliseum. Three fighter jets flew overhead, but the resulting thunder only increased the intensity of the din. The ucla band struck up a tinny version of “The Hills of Westwood,” adding even more commotion to the cacophony. Yet as I stood at the edge of the playing field, clutching my flag, I could only hear my blood rushing in my head. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and unsuccessfully attempted to ignore the rapid beating of my heart. Suddenly, the drum major blew his whistle, and a jolt of electricity spread throughout the entire band. I straightened my spine, lifted my head, and pasted a smile on my face. As Ito confidently strode to the middle of the field, glints from the afternoon sun’s rays reflected off of his shiny golden armor. The atmosphere changed immediately. A sense of awe flooded the crowd, as everyone in the stadium watched Ito plunge his sword into the middle of the field. I uttered a last minute silent prayer, and then the drummers started playing “Fanfare.” I stepped out onto that field of dreams and performed flawlessly. The rest of that game against ucla remains scattered images in my mind. I remember the smiling faces of my friends cheering ardently. I remember the impudence of the streaker running through the ucla band. I remember a near-perfect halftime performance. I remember Coach Carroll’s beaming face as he led the band in our final performance of “Tribute to Troy” for the night. I remember the violent outpouring of emotion as the students attempted to rush the field. But above all, I remember that yellow scoreboard: USC Trojans – 27: UCLA Bruins – 0.

Short, but sweet.

And here's a *picture* of me on that fateful day. (Kudos to Nicole for letting me scan it!)

Which Peanuts Character Are You Quiz

I know I said I wouldn't do any more quizzes... but I have to compare my results with hers, right?

I've been listening to whales. They're fun.

I'm procrastinating on a scholarship essay. So, I decided to display some photos of good old Marks Hall for everyone. They were taken at the beginning of last year, back when my roommate talked to me (in fact, she's in the second photo) and the room was without many of its later charms. (IE, lots of posters, a postcard collage, and a bit of clutter... also, Genevieve, the ghost, was still unnamed.)

Here's Marks Hall from the Radisson:

This is Marks Hall's front entrance:

A lovely shot of the desks. Mine was the one with the silver monitor.

And now, for the bunkbeds. I was on bottom for the first semester, then I was stuck on the top for the second.

Finally, our cupboard and Lea's trunk and bureau. Notice Josh, the beautiful African mask.

That's it!

Umm... I should work on this scholarship essay some more. But as I was going through my pictures, I realized that some people might want to see where I lived for a year.

Strangely enough, I have Selena's "Dreamin' of You" stuck on rotate in my head.

I haven't blogged for a while. I think I was disappointed at the lack of comments on my last entry. But after contemplating for a few days, I think I understand... IT'S SUMMER! People are out, having fun on vacations or partying or... something. But reading weblogs isn't high on most people's priority list. So, you are forgiven. ;)

I'm in the middle of taking a class on Adobe Photoshop at the moment. I'm actually enjoying it. Strange...

I'm having a hard time sleeping. I tried going to bed at nine tonight... but as soon as I went to sleep, my parents woke me up. And I've been trying to go back to bed ever since, and it's just not working. I have all of these thoughts running through my head... I'm excited about next year, especially about rushing. I'm a bit anxious about it at the same time, though. I dream about being rejected from every sorority because I'm not a size six or because I'm not pretty enough or funny enough or smart enough... Then I wake up and frantically run around the room, trying to figure out who can give me recommendations or how I can lose five pounds. These feelings totally disappear when the sun comes up... but at night, my insecurities haunt me. I suppose they haunt everyone.

I'll try sleeping again. G'night everyone.

Coldplay's "No More Keeping My Feet On the Ground"

In reference to this post, I feel I need to elaborate on the Class of 2003 comment. And I can do that through a few pictures. Please take note...

This is an example of a Before Picture. Actually, most of the junk was already cleaned off the car by this time.

And this is an example of an After Picture. Well, a different car, obviously, but you get the point. Imagine having to wash your car at five in the morning after staying up all night. Lovely.

Yup. The incoming seniors put all sorts of nasty things over almost all of the graduating seniors' cars. These items included car chalk, powdered suger, flour, vaseline, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, shaving cream, peanut butter, and saran wrap. That was a lovely departing gift from them. I was lucky enough to be excluded from the barrage... but still. It was icky. The seniors got back at a few of them... think honey and cat litter. Not to mention the baseball bat barrage... ::evil laugh::

The Hives, "I Hate to Say I Told You So"

So, thanks to Miah, I'm actually writing something. I've been a bit embarrassed of the lack of content on my blog lately, and he just pointed out the obvious. Thanks for that, babe. (Also, on a tangent, I'd like to say that Miah's my ideal man. He's a drummer, cultured, intelligent, suave, and just way too good-looking for his own good. Unfortunately, I'm not his type, but shame on the boys that aren't trying to date him!) As my faithful readers will notice, I'm trying to wean myself off of the quizzes. I didn't take any today! Go me!

I think my real problem with updating the blogger... well, I'm bored out of my mind. Summer is always a bad time for me. Few of my friends stick around Houston, and the ones that do are always working. Now, I'd love to always be working... but Express won't give me any hours. So, I sit at home. And do nothing.

Anticipating this problem, I set three goals at the beginning of the summer. Let me list:

1) Try to read at least two books a week. I'm an English major who hasn't read very much! That's definitely something that needs to be fixed. My mom's given me a nice stack of books to go through first... I'm currently reading Play it as it Lays by Joan Didion. Next is the House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III, The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien, Davita's Harp by Chaim Potok, and The Book of Daniel by E.L. Doctorow. Hopefully I'll turn into a well-read person sometime. Eventually.

2) Watch worthwhile films. I'm not talking about the Hollywood blockbusters that invade the movie theaters each summer. I'm talking about independent films, foreign movies, and classic pictures. Roger Ebert has a very complete list of "Great Movies" that he recommends. I'd like to see at least 75 percent of those. Right now, I've viewed quite a number of excellent films, but I just can't remember details very well. The other day, though, I found a good solution to my memory problem. I was reading an article about Peter Bogdanovich in the New Yorker Magazine that gave me a really good idea. Evidently, from the time he was a little boy, he kept an extensive notecard system about every movie that he'd ever seen. He jotted down a few notes about each film, and then filed it away. Then, when he wanted to remember something about a particular picture, he'd just look back through his files. While I'm not that obsessive (or that organized!), I'm watching movies with a bit more eye for detail. Now I notice a lot more about the editing, the cinematography, and the actor's performance. I just need to watch more! (Right now, I have a stack of Jean Cocteau films to see... then I'm moving onto Jean Renoir.)

3) Learn how to use Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro. This has been the trickiest one so far. I know I've already mentioned it before. (See the entry for June 4th) But it's just so frustrating. I get bogged down in the details, I have problems understanding the language of the manual, and the interface is far from intuitive. I want to be competent by the end of the summer... I don't know if that's going to happen, but at least I'm making a stab at it. And while I'm at it, I could re-edit a lot of my earlier film projects, like The Galveston Alien Project and the Australia trip.

These goals have been all well and good, but I've suddenly realized that I have a few more things I *should* accomplish with my time...

4) Lose the Freshman 15 that I gained during the school year. I've started counting calories, but I'm having problems with the exercising bit. My options are a bit limited... I can't really afford a gym membership or dance classes, my ideal physical activity. I could go running, but I abhore that with all my heart and all my soul. So, I'm trying out the run/walk deal, with some swimming thrown in for good measure. I suppose I could use the pool that's been utterly abandoned in my back yard... too bad I'm not fond of water.

5) Learn to cook. I'm going to be living in an apartment next year... and I won't be able to afford to go out to eat all of the time. While I'm pretty decent at the rudimentary items (spaghetti, cookies, omelettes, etc), I'd like to be able to throw semi-nice dinner parties for people. Or be able to whip up a few good casseroles. Or concoct a yummy tuna au poivre. Or something. I've started collecting recipes... if anyone has any "sure-bet" items, feel free to contribute!

6) Go to a couple of good concerts. Let me tell you about my tale of woe concerning the Warped Tour. I was supposed to go after my freshman year of high school... but I got dumped on that day by the person who would've taken me, so obviously that was not going to happen. The next year, I was in Europe at the time of the Warped Tour. The next? I went backpacking with my church youth group. This year? I'm going to a friend's wedding right in the middle of the concerts. So, it's a lost cause, and I've recognized this. But at least I want to go to a few shows at Fitzgerald's... especially Secret Agent 8, a local Houston band. I want to get in touch with my ska roots... as well as listen to a bit more punk than I have been lately. I just haven't been paying a lot of attention to music. This amendment will hopefully continue when I return to L.A.... I'll have a car, so I can actually go to shows without having to beg for a ride!

I'm always adding to this list. Normally I count travel as my big self-improvement project of the summer... but I'm stuck in Houston this year! This is why I'm being so ambitious about these other projects...

We'll see.

I'm sorry, I HAD TO DO THIS!

Ewan McGregor is my man.

Take The Ewan McGregor Test!

Although I think I would've preferred *this* one...

Take The Ewan McGregor Test!

Too bad he's not a trumpet player. But a musician works all the same!

::rowr::

"Jenny, I've got your number... I need to make you mine... Jenny, don't change your number... 867-5309..." (Translation: I'm singing "Jenny/867-5309" because it's a great song)

Well, just for Amy, I took another quiz. I bet she'll find this relevant...

16

I act like I'm 16.
This test was brought to you by David - Part of the David and James phenomenon. Take it here.

Sorry Amy, you'll have to live with that next year. Damn teenage drama!

I've been reading a lot of books lately. I just finished up The French Lieutenant's Woman. I originally started reading it because I absolutely love the movie...

::three hours later::

I don't remember what I was going to say about the book *or* the movie. I'm sorry. I shouldn't stop things and then start them up again. Needless to say, it was going to be interesting. But in my reduced state of being, I will say that I loved both. They were different from one another, but each was excellent in its own way.

And I watched Radio Flyer today... I just sat there and said, "That kid [Joe Mazello]'s so cute. Too bad he looks nothing like that when I saw him in EVK all last year."

No more can come out of my feeble brain.

I'm not so sure about the last one... but it's a nice thought!

ARRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!

Boredom is not a good thing. I need to do something! Well, I need to do something besides trying to learn how to use Final Cut Pro. It's driving me up the wall. I'm most of the way through volume I of the manual, which is helpful... but it's still frustrating.

I need to get out of this house.

I want to go on a roadtrip.

Jess, I'm coming over to carry out our summer plans, okay?!

"In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel rings in my ears

I just bonded with Jess over the results from the "Which 80's Movie Icon Alter Ego are you?" Quiz... my results are...

Who's Your 80s Movie Icon Alter-Ego? Find out @ She's Crafty

Now, everyone who's anyone loves "Say Anything!" I mean, what else can define the perfect teen flick? We've got a young John Cusack playing one of the best male leads *EVER*... we've got a hint of scandal... we've got an over-achieving scholar headed to England... we've got the 80's background. It's all there.

Although, like I said to Jessica, her designated 80's Icon of "Baby" from Dirty Dancing isn't all bad either. She gets to have sex with good old Patrick Swayze. Now, ordinarily, this wouldn't be such a great thing (even though he's from Houston!)... but in Dirty Dancing, he looks like the lead singer from A-ha! And that guy's pretty hot in the music video for "Take On Me," I must say. So... she's pretty lucky too.
